Desperately Seeking Balance!

Alright, boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen… Let’s massage the details a little more…

I’m sitting at my desk, considering how to better promote holistic professionals and practitioners. How do I take care of myself, help you take care of yourself, and helps others take care of themselves ~ so we can make the world a better place?

In helping others building their businesses, how do we blend what’s already out there so that we can maintain balance in our budgets (after all, we’re not the government) as well as in our mind-body-spirit?

Collaborating with Competitors

Have you ever been sitting in a coffee shop, sipping on something yummy, enjoying the peaceful moment and noticed a competing coffee shop just across the street? I did that just the other day and it was quite an ‘aha’ moment.

Like attracts like and, by locating so closely together, competitors can actually build their businesses. Apparently, this is a strong way to find customers.

So, what do you do?

I often get asked what type of “healer” I am and why I started the national Holistic Chamber of Commerce (HCC)…

This pre-supposes that 'holistic' refers only to healers. From my point-of-view, there are holistic ways of doing business as well as holistic health and wellness experts. Given the state of today's world, I want an attorney with holistic attitudes as much as I want a massage therapist to keep my body in tune. I prefer a bookkeeper with similar values just as I prefer healthy eating and exercise for staying fit.

By Darlene Merkler, Merkler’s Consulting Services. Darlene was our first associated HCC Chapter President in the Inland Empire (CA)!

Initially, I couldn’t find any options… When I was diagnosed with osteo-arthritis and told by my medical doctor that there was nothing that could be done for me-- that I would be in a wheelchair by the time I was 55.

Eventually, after asking everyone I came in contact with about other options, someone mentioned Acupuncture and Massage. So, I tried them both and they helped a lot. 

I also tried Reflexology, Meditation and other holistic approaches to healthcare.
